yea, so im pretty sure i'm gonna get flamed for asking a question, but I havn't a clue on an amp.

i am purchasing 2 12" swr1242's, and plan on powering them 800-1000 watts each.

is it possible to get an amp thats 800x2 rms @ 2 ohms? (whatever that means).

does 800x2 mean that 800 watts will go into both of the R's?

what do the ohms do?

thanks. and be nice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

no 800x2 does not mean both get 800 watts....it means it drives 800 watts into two channels.....aka each sub will get 400 or so watts.....

for your subs, since they are dual 4 ohm you will want an amp that drives its maximum power at 1 ohm most likely.....

it will be pretty costly to get 2000 watts rms to get teh power that you want....but the subs will take it to an extent

wrong if its 800x2 @ 2ohm it means each would get 800 watts if he wires them per channel.... and the subs will take it fine in proper enclosures....

umm no ......a 2 channel amp rated at 800x2 means 800 watts INTO 2 channels....its pretty logical....
...No. It is 800w x 2 channels, meaning 800w per channel, so it would be 1600w bridged.

If you are seriously arguing this, you need a new hobby.

An ohm is a simple measurment of resistance, like an inch is a measurment of distance. The lower the ohm load, the less resistance exists on the circuit. If you get those model Type R's, then you can wire them to a single 1 ohm load. You should look into a mono D class amplifier, as they are relatively more efficient than an A/B class amp (that would have multiple channels.) There is an abundance of amps that do around 1500w @ 1 ohm for those Type R's, and they will love it.

Kotec? Are you seriously taking this standpoint?
So when I put in my For Sale thread that the KAC-PS300T 2-channel amp I am selling does 100wX2 is it your held belief that it only outputs 50w per channel by those figures?!? (you'd be wrong if so)

Let's take the original poster's numbers then....

800x2 means Eight Hundred TIMES Two....or 1600!! (which equates to 800w per channel, silly boy...)

It is incredibly easy to argue with me, Tony.

Doing so doesn't mean that the person arguing is correct, however.

It also doesn't mean that I am correct, either. I am not above making mistakes by far...

i think i just had a brain fart or sumthin.....ive been using mono amps latly, so i assumed something i shudnt have lol....my bad

wow i just thought of what i was just arguing and it makes me angry that i thought that....i dunno i shud just stop haha

let the party resume?
