New to the site and starting an old school build

Hello all....my name is Mac I am a long time lurker and have been in car audio way back in the mid 90s. I competed back then with what's now called cheater amps....lol shows my age. I have a old school install I'm doing right now and joined the site to get some good information on the latest equipment that's out there. I have some questions on head units and sound processing since my old amps have very little sound processing abilities.

I am running old-school soundstream exact subs and soundstream sa amps. I have also have 3 reference 500s but they are slated for another build in a Wrx STI (my sons) the subs I have are brand new from mid 90s I just powered them up for the first time last week. They still sound fabulous like they did back then, I've had a few.

My other question what is the best option for SQ on component sets....I'm out of touch with brands I'm leaning back to Focal.....and Hertz audio right now I've had Focal in 3 of my past vehicles very nice sounding stuff. This install is for SQ only I'm to old for crazy loud.

I have a few pictures this is just temp install now as I figure out tuning and vehicle dynamics.

Thanks it's a work in progress it's all original except the wheels and obviously the car stereo setup.

I am looking for suggestions on what head units to buy and 1/2 din sound processor....I have a soundstream head unit now which is ok sounds very well with a soundstream parametric 4 band eq but ....my wife bought those for me not knowing the new soundstream is nothing like the old US company. It also seems like Alpine and kenwood have gone down the toilet as well. Comparably speaking to the old company.

Sorry I'm an old man looking for decent sound quality and the Chinese market has destroyed our options.

Here you go. This is the 'go to' unit for sound quality if you don't want to spend major money.
DEH-80PRS - CD Receiver with 3-Way Active Crossover Network, Auto EQ, and Auto Time Alignment | Pioneer Electronics USA
If there was a budget of say 7 to 8 bills would there be other options. Remember though because of the dash configuration I can only run a single din head unit. I would also like to be able to run dvds since I plan on headrest screens or center console screen.

I did finish the positive grounding and direct alternator feed today.

Bump that to about a grand and you can probably get the pioneer stage 4 dex-p99rs That's the premier SQ tweaker head unit. Replaces it's price worth of outboard EQ crossover and time alignment features.

The 80 PRS is quite powerful for processing power for it's price.

Cool old Soundstream items there.

Dunno what's worth the price for components these days. All the stuff I use is no longer in production. If I were to start from scratch I'd be shopping parts express or madisound for raw drivers and doing active crossover.

Most of the brands from the 90's aren't the same as they were and even the decent brands all have low end lines that should be avoided.

Nice car and good luck. Post pics as you go.

I don't blame you on the pioneer stuff, i'm not a fan of them either. Kenwood head units have always sounded the best to me. I know the Audison Bit processors are considered to be one of the best available. Although i'm sure they cost some money.
