I'm also new to Audio. I currently have an Alpine 9815 HU which I really love. Everything else is stock in my Subaru. I've heard not to bother getting rear speakers, my fronts are 6.5" but very shallow supposedly.

I listen to mostly rock:

emo, screamo, rock, rock pop, little bit of trance/rap. mostly fast music. Some bands are: The Used, Taking Back Sunday, Saosin, underoath, Coheed, Fall out boy, Jack's mannequin.

My car has an exhaust but its not really loud, I do like to crank my music up over the exhaust noise. Generally about 16-18 Volume on my Alpine. I have heard my friend's Polk unamp'd speakers and the treble was so high it was piercing. So I'm not looking for that. I'm also not a big fan of huge heavy sloppy bass.

I'm really in to audiophile headphones and I'm hoping to reproduce the smooth musical sound, but not for reference listening. Since I listen to mostly fast stuff, I like my music to be engaging, solid bass, detailed highs, with great sound stage (although thats hard in a subaru). Sennheiser HD600/650, Grado, Denon, UE are a few examples.

My budget is around $1000 to $1200. This is also a semi-showcar so a nice sub setup & enclosure would be nice but sound quality is #1. I prefer to keep it un-subbed with awesome speakers but I heard you do need a sub for a complete sound.

you got enough money to do this correctly, lets see

I would spend a good $2-400 on your components and $200 for sound deadening your entire front of your car, especially the doors. Deaden the doors super good before you even drop in the speakers. I am a big fan of polk tweeters/ components they are smooth and play very loud with out breakup. like so

Dig around SSA and get back to us with what you like

For sub bass you wont need much maybe a 10" in a small sealed box something like Image Dynamics, Elemetal designs, Polk, Mach 5 10", Fi Q 10", RD audio classic 10"

Even a pair of 8" with 250 rms each shoudl fill in low end for SQ purposes, not really gonna blow your hair but that will be your next Purchase //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif im sure.

maybe 500 watts will get most of these pretty loud for SQ purposes

Mtx 500watts at 2 ohms at Amazon for $139.00

I'm not sure why but I've heard the Polks and while they can go loud the treble unamped in my friend's car was piercing. I really didn't like it that sound, it wasn't a warm sound at all. I dont' need my music to be overly warm like Bose, but smooth and balanced yet engaging. Got any speaker suggestions based on this? Are Dynaudio's or Rainbow's out of my price range? These are the only 2 brands I've heard of that were good.

I think if I go for subs I would want atleast 2 10's maybe 3 for car shows. Got any suggestions for subs + amps to support that would look nice for shows while great for SQ?
