I'm not posting my black sheep thoughts on that forum, but instead for your

amusement I'll tell you why this idea isn't sweet as it appears for a DIY loudspeaker.

This isn't rocket science, this is common sense 101 class.

First, active equalization means you have to spend money on whatever

circuit or processor to do that job. That same money could buy you

a digital crossover w/EQ & delay for $250.

Next, you can buy two more amplifier channels for cheap, lets say $200.

So, for $200 more you can get a setup that is 100x more superior than a dedicated

hybrid design that, a one trick pony for that speaker design only.

Perhaps I don't get it but what he is essentially saying you should run a digital eq on top of passive crossovers. In a mobile enviroment, isn't this the norm? I mean even a 3 band eq on the head unit (in digital realm, no?) comes before the passive crossovers of the componant set.

Yea well, most loudspeaker systems have the Passive Cross-Over. And if you want to tweek the system are you going to put in an Active EQ. Unless you NEED to bi-amp then active crossovers are just over kill....

We did/do things in the car audio world that the home audio folks only dream about. ie, fully active sound system 25 years ago.

This is normal then, normal today. Not normal in home audio then, nor today. But give credit where it's due,

there are few home audio folks doing more active stuff -- if you want to pay

big casholla for the system.

DIY still rules, car, home or whatever. Another silly example.

their load for this type of design.

What is so special? It's a fully active system using multi-channels home amps.

Stuff we did in car audio two decades ago... /lol

But, his design of the active electronics is customized for that speaker only,

whereas if you buy a seperate generic processor you can tweak forever the

system.

LOL, I wouldn't tell some of the ol' school boys in Home Audio that. You might just get your house burned down and your ears poked out..... LOL
