New subwoofer ideas

Hello all, Currently I'm looking to upgrade my current system. Right now I have 2 12" Kicker CompR running on a PPI S-2000.1. I'm looking for a decent sub, loud and hard hitting, and a nice amp to match. I don't really want to spend no more than $2000 on both subs and amp.
What are your size constraints? One of the most important factors is the enclosure and trying to fit too much sub into too small of a box will yield poor performance.

Do you have any electrical upgrades? The big three wiring upgrade? Extra batteries? A high output alternator?

I'd say do the big three upgrade if you haven't already, get one beefy sub for a few hundred that can take 2K RMS (or two that can take 1K each if you just like having two) and wire it/them down to 1ohm to get something close to 2K RMS from that PPI. If you have the tools and skills to build a box there a handful of people on here that sell designs. If you unable to build it you can have it made and shipped. Don't buy a prefab. A solid sub, some wiring upgrades, and a box designed, built and shipped all together would probably run you something like $500-700 total.

Every time I go in to my local car audio shop, they always say that my amp is basically trash, and they try to sell me a kicker kx 2400.1. Is it trash or do they not know what they are talking about.

They either don't know what they're talking about or they do, but they'll try to sell you on it anyway because they stand to gain from doing so.

If money was no issue I'd take the Kicker because it's a bit more amp and they do make great amps, but they're expensive. If it were my money I'd go with the PPI because it's a better value. Kicker is one of those companies that your going to pay a premium for the name.

Since you've already got the PPI I definitely wouldn't recommend swapping it out for such a small gain unless you just have more money than you know how to spend.

Plus the PPI is one ohm stable, giving you more versatility.

We need to know your year and model on your car (that can tell use the amps on your alternator and how much room you have).

You can keep the PPI amp as long as it's functioning right (if you keep the stock electrical then there's no way your going to get all the power out of it anyways, thus no point in upgrading).

If your not planning on going all out on electrical upgrades then get a pair of a good entry level subwoofer (EX: SSA GCON Subs - SoundSolutionsAudio - GCON - SSA STORE ) and then invest in a good custom box which should go for about 250 from a local builder (or build the box yourself if you feel comfortable doing so)

^^^^ yes what he said..

there's 2 things you need...

the right box for what ever sub you get.

and

the proper electrical system to support your system.

just look at my sig. and see what im running as for power.

2 alts, 7 batterys, a lot of 1/0 wire.. and so on.

"IT TAKES POWER TO MAKE POWER"

so you need to figure out what do you want??

nasty bass ? ( you will need high output alt, a battery or 2( depends on how big you want to go),, 1/0 wire.... )

a little bass ? ( you could get by with your stock electrical. but would still do the big 3.)

Buy an SSA anything then come back and thank me because it will be one of the best decisions you have ever made! They have an awesome sale on some subs.

Do you guys have any sub recommendations? I hear a lot about Sundown subs, are there any others similar to sundown

did you even check out the subs from the sound solutions audio site that was recommended in the beginning? Those are all quality big dawg subs that none of your local shops can even dream to keep up with.
