new subs. have a question

hey folks. buddy just gave me 2 12 inch mtx subs in a box. they sound great but have no air ports drilled. is this bad?

AKA they're in a sealed box? No, that's not bad. If it sounds good to you, stick with it.

Go to the "enclosure and design" part of this forum and read the sticky about the differences between sealed and ported boxes.

In short, a ported box (aka has "air holes") will be louder, but the box itself will be much larger. Sealed boxes (like the one you have) are, generally speaking, made for sound quality and do not going to be as loud.

Please don't just drill holes in your sealed box. A ported box is much more complicated than that.
