So I finally got my sundown sa12 in running of a db drive okur 800.1. Box is 3 cubes tuned to 32hz. Set gain to 40 volts with a dmm on a 40hz -5db tone at 32/35 volume. The thing is barely louder subsonic filter set to 15hz and lpf set to 90hz. Bass boost is 0. The thing is barely louder than my old ID12 which was powered off a kicker kx250, for more than tripling the power I'm not seeing the output. The sub is wired neg to neg to terminal pos to pos to terminal. It's d4 so it should be running at 2ohms. The amp even though its mono has 2 negative and 2 positive terminals. I tried switching the negative to different terminals, no change. Any advice is appreciated.

It is an A5 okur.
you didnt triple the power, you might be seeing 500w out of that amp. 60a of fusing. The kicker was underrated probably 300-350w. i would sell it and go for a solid 1000 rms amp and set the gains conservative. headroom is a good thing. also 3 cubes is HUGE for one 12

The birth sheet of the kicker was 251rms. ***** about the okur I guess I should have done more research. Any recommendations of an amp without breaking the bank? And sorry that was a type-o 2 cubes at 32hz.

kicker 750.1. comes to mind. any decent 1200-1500w 1ohm mono amp should do the power you need at 2ohm. fuse rating is a decent indicator of power output.

I wish I had known that about the fuse - can you give me a correlation of the proper size fuse to power I'm not sure what's enough not enough ect. What about the hifonics 1000.1 750 watts @ 2ohms 80 amp fuse.

go with kicker or alpine, they are built for 2 ohm operation. You should have gotten a D2 sub man.

I wanted to leave myself room to get another one eventually and run them at 1 ohm. I need to keep it semi budgeted around 175 lest my wife kill me. I will have to put the okur up for sale because if this is all it has it's not worth it for me to keep it. Any suggestions are appreciated.

if you wanted two in the future, you should have made a dual ported enclosure with seperate chambers to save money on the enclosure. and get at least a 1500 rms amp. If you want to go hifonics, you'll want to get a their 2400 rms brutus amps. Those are more suited to sundowns.

You're right I should have, live and learn. I think I'm going to pick up a rockford 1200-1d. It says 800 watts @ 2 ohms. Am I supposed to run an additional inline fuse from my distribution block to the amp with this type of amp?

if you plan on running two still, why not go with an amp for two now? those sundowns can take **** near 1k without problems. a 1500w 1 ohm mono would be fine at 2 ohm and then when you get another sub and box you wont have to get another amp. a shark shk2500d should fit the bill and its $130 and youll get around 1600watts at 1 and maybe 800-900 at 2ohm. search shark shk2500

thanks DB, that definitely helps swallowing a $300 price tag 😂 these would essentially be running midbass for me too

What is your budget? With being exposed to Rain.. I would recommend looking at a marine grade SAS Bazooka for the sub stage
