New Stereo Install - Wiring Harness Issues

Ok. I have my new deck. I have pulled the old stock deck.

The wiring harness that I got was for a 2001 Toyota 4Runner. The new harness looks nothing like the back of the old deck.

Shouldnt the harness be exactly the same as the back of the old deck. That way you hardwire the new harness to the harness that came with the new deck? Then one end goes to the new deck and the other end just clicks into the socket that the old deck was attached to?

Am I missing something. I think there is an amp behind the stock radio. It at least has a heat sink on it. Do I need to crack that case and maybe the new harness fits inside there?

I dont want to hardwire this thing, but I might have to.

first of all what headunit are you putting in? you need to get a harness adapter for that headunit that works with your car

well if you have a toyota it should be the same for every car unless you have the jbl system then it is a diff plug other than that its pritty straight forward

i dont remember exactly on this vehicle but a few of the toyotas, you can just disconect the plugs from the factory amp behind the radio and that will be the regular toyota harness. just look on the amp, sides and top or bottom and you should see the 2 plugs you will need.

3rd gen 4runners are pretty straight foward and yes you will need to remove the factory amp and get a wiring harness its plug and play

Yep. Pretty much.

The thing you see with a headsink is indeed an amp.

Reach around to the bottom of it and you will find the two plugs that correspond with the harness you have.
