If I'm the newbie, how come I'm the one taking all of the factors of the setup into account? You can't just say 'sealed isn't loud' and leave it at that, it's not a proper statement at all.
Yes, it's a generally accepted fact that ported/vented enclosures are usually louder than a sealed box, and you can achieve higher levels of SPL in a ported/vented box much easier. However, to say a sealed box cannot get loud is totally false. You can't put 6 18" subs in a sealed box and tell me it won't be loud - because if it's set up properly, it will. OP may not get as loud in a sealed box as he potentially could in a vented box, but he could still get loud.
