Yes, it's a generally accepted fact that ported/vented enclosures are usually louder than a sealed box, and you can achieve higher levels of SPL in a ported/vented box much easier. However, to say a sealed box cannot get loud is totally false. You can't put 6 18" subs in a sealed box and tell me it won't be loud - because if it's set up properly, it will. OP may not get as loud in a sealed box as he potentially could in a vented box, but he could still get loud.
