New Speakers and Amp

Hey, planning out my new system, and I have narrowed it down to three component set choices.

Focal 165v

MB Quart PSD216

Kenwood Excelon KFC-XR61P

You may be wondering why I put a Kenwood set in the list, but they have been recommended to me by multiple people now, and an advantage to them is that they drop right in in Acura's and Honda's (I drive an Acura, so that'd be nice).

All of the above sets can be viewed at http://www.thebassmechanic.com

Anyway, I wanted to know what you guys think I should get and for what reason. If you could, please base it on a listening experience and not just that "that company makes good stuff."

Also, I am trying to decide on an amp for them. I have been told that 55W for any speaker is plenty, but others have told me that 100-150W is needed to make them shine. What do you guys think? I've been looking at U.S. Acoustics amps lately for my components. Here are my following options and please tell me which you think would be right.

USA2100 (100 x 2 @ 4ohm)- power the fronts off this amp and the rears off HU

USA2150 (150 x 2 @ 4ohm)- power the fronts off this amp and the rears off HU

USA4085 (85 x 4 @ 4ohm)- power all speakers off of this

Al of the above amps can be viewed at http://www.thezeb.com/caraudio/us_acoustics.html

Thanks for any input.

I've heard these speakers and compared to the others you list they can't compare. They only hold ground to some Sony or clarion speakers but not the MB. I've heard the MB you can't go wrong there and by the ratings provided on the web site I would have to go with the 2150. I have USAcoustics amps sonicly they sound fine even great once you see the price you pay for them and notice they don't tax your system like a lot of other amps.

I agree 100 % with h2day. They don't even come close. My MTX components aren't the cleanest out there either but they are way better (especaially at power handling) than the Kenwood comps. MB makes some really good comps. There is alot of really good comps out there and MB is up there with the best of them.

Between those 2 I would have to definitely say take the MB psd216's over the 165v's. The 216's have a much wider frequency range and they will go lower than the focals,(45hz).

Definitely the MB PSD 216's.

No I have never owned any components made by either of those manufacturers. I am in fact, looking for a new set of components myself and MB Quart is on my list of possibilities. MTX components are very good comps for the money but not the cleanest or best sounding. I'm a sound quality freak and want something a bit more refined sounding. So I may go with MB Quart, Boston, or even Focal.........not sure yet...still looking.
