new speaker setup

Hey everyone I am new to the forums and would like the opinions of some more experienced people than myself. I'm putting new speakers in my car and my goal in mind is speakers with loudness, clarity and decent bass. I will not be putting in a sub so I want some speakers that are gooing to sound full and well rounded. As much as I appreciate SQ I would be willing to sacrifice a litlle SQ for loudness. To me there is nothing sicker than hearing someones speakers from 100 yards away and being able to clearly gear the lyrics. I have two jl 300/4 speaker amps from my previous system so perhaps I could use one? I didn't really want to spend more than a few hundred on speakers but I am open to anything. Any suggestions are appreviated, thanks!

i knew no one would respond to this, probably because im new. It sucks that I spend hours searching for decent speaker reviews and dont find shit and I can't even get help on the forums? C'mon someone help me out I even provided all the needed info I just want some personal opinions.

anyways, can you tell me what car you have (this way i can figure out what speakers will fit your car)

also can you tell me your exact budget?

would you considering buying from an online store? ebay? or do you prefer authorized stores?

lastly, please list the types of music you listen to as there are too many speakers that fit your description.

And you can use both of the JL300.4's, if you have the room. Just bridge each into 2 channels, allowing for 4 channels from the 2 amps bridged. Powah!

thanks to both of you. i was wondering if each amp could be bridged to power two speakers, which i would be willing to do to push the speakers power, glad to know that. i have an 06 mitsu evolution IX. i have had shady experiences with ebay but i dont mind buying from there, it's cheap. i listen to rap, rock (more metalish like metallica, avenged sevenfold, etc.. and techno also) i have 500 dollars at the moment, i was hoping to spend some on performance but im assuming a nice speaker setup will be expensive. on speakers i would like to spend 300 max for four speakers. is this unrealistic? thanks for the help.

This is a good budget to start out with. there are plenty of speakers that you can choose from. cadence cvl, cdt eurosport, rainbow cmx, jbl gti, and maybe kicker ss65

these are all some good component system that you can get.

also don't buy any speakers for the back, as they can ruin the sound stage and do not contribute much if at all to the overall performance of the system. just get a good system up front and enjoy.

how is going to " ruin the sound stage " if he has no subs ??

im no expert, but i dont think its going to harm the sound stage with no sub and front and back speakers.

than again i could be wrong.

thanks leonsv. i was curious if only new speakers up front would be an ok choice, glad to know thats an option. i should probably sell one of my jl amps, power the front two speakers from a bridged setup on my other jl speaker amp and then power the rears through stock or eventually aftermarket HU? is having only two new speakers and two stockers vs. a set of four new speakers going to cut down significantly on the loudness? thanks again, i appreciate all the great help.

I would go with Polk comps for that price range. They are about 100 watts rms and get very loud and clear when pushed.

also, what are your opinion on alpine type r and type x components. my buddy has some type r's (component) and they sound beautiful, very clean highs and nice mid bass. i have also heard great things about the type x's. either way i want LOUD.

I was curious if there were any polk's in specific you were referring to? I have read many good things about the polk audio momo carbon 6.5' comps. I would like to hear them in person. I really like the styling of the speakers themselves, anyone had experience with these comps. before?

i went and listened to the polk momo MMC650 i believe and was impressed with the sound for the price, although they were in a sound board. very clear and got pretty **** loud.

i personally am stuck on either the momos or kicker SS series, probably stick with the momos though for the price less than 200 while the SS are 200+

Ok, I would go with the Polk MOMO's. In fact, I have the Alpine Type-R componenets and am just not impressed with them. I made the mistake of buying without listening, and I won't again. The amp for my speakers is also not the greatest, but after listening to them in a soundboars, side by side on an amp with the same settings and through the same HU, the MOMO's blew the R's away in every area, even though they weren't powered to their potential.

The Type-R's have something weird going on. I feel like they aren't bright until I'm pushing the mids too hard, and then at that point, the tweeters sound a bit harsh, and I've got them to +3 db attenuation.

That being said, I'm sure they would do much better in a sealed door with a better and slightly overpowered quality amp. But, side by side doesn't lie to your ears.

Also, try out the Type-X's, I have never personally heard them (noone around here seems to carry them onhand). They might be what you like. You'd be looking at 75 RMS vs 125 RMS Polks, so if they are decent sounding, and fit your power bill, go with the appropriate set.

Oh ya, and generally, Tweeter has atleast one set of Polks in store on tap to listen too. Unfortunately, they don't always have the size you are looking into. I took a gamble with the MOMO's for my rear doors because I didn't hear them beforehand, but they lived up to their big brother's standards in everywhere but the midbass. 5.25" co-axial just isn't the same as the Components.

And to give you a comparison of the R sound quality to the Polks in my rear: I have to turn my rear MOMO's down 20 watts less than the R's because they are so clear and loud, they overpower my R tweeters even at +3 db, watt per watt.
