new power wire

im gonna go from 8 gauge to 4 gauge.. and im pretty sure im going to run it under the whole car ziptied to the chassis and im gonna drill a hole thru my trunk and gromet the hole.. what do you guys think about running the power wire like that? itll be way easier for me to hide the wire that way then to run it thru the car.

If your going through the trouble to go under the car, go big! 1/0 or bust. Also, use wire loom and tape it every 6 inches. Also think of how you are going to attach those zipties, you shouldn't use any brake or fuel lines, etc to hold it up.

Sounds like good plan to me. Make sure you secure it well as other people have stated and actually for full protection if you wanted to go through the trouble of fishing it through and everything. You could go ahead and put wire loom on it then fish it THROUGH the chassis of car since its hollow square steel on most vehicles. The biggest problem would as I said be fishing it through.

I'll be different and say that you shouldn't do it. The wire is alot more succeptible to being crimped, nicked, cut, or exposed. If a portion of the power cable becomes exposed and then gets splashed pretty well... the water will make a connection with the chassis (where you're grounded to) and cause a direct short.

Bad IMO.

Good luck!

Hello;

If you're gonna run iy under the car,I personally would use *Flexible Electrical Conduit*. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif .Some of it is steel reinforced w/ a duable insulation coating on the outside.I also would use a waterproof threaded grommet similar to the one StreetWire makes to make the entrance into the trunk area.As far as securing the cable under the car,I would also use steel insulated clamps and "Bolts,Lock Nuts,flat washers and Silicone",not self~tapping screws or sheet metal screws,which could loosen over time:vibrations and what not.Loom is ok,IMOO,I like something that is "Totally Encased" and more durable,"cause you never know about the extremes Mother Nature throws at us.

If you do use the Flex Slit Loom,just be sure to put the slit on the bottom so as water and such has a chance to run out of the loom //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif .Not Flamming on the other posters,just My views on what I would do //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif .All the Best with your project.Take Care.
