I talked to David about these on the phone a few weeks ago now... the price is speculative hence the "I've heard at least $650" which seems about right to me to be quite honest

this is forum rumor... not what I learned from david

however time frame WAS talked about on the phone.... and it's as quoted

anyway it's not random... it's what I as a speaker designer would charge for such a speaker with this casted mold frame, 50 mm one way, split voice coils, and the kind of power handling this thing has

personally I would think that $1000 each is a more justified price considering it's basically destroying anything ever made before this time

the twelve is like 16" deep IIRC

and you have to remember there are subs under this price that are in DIRECT competition to this sub... as far as top output...

to reach full excursion on something like this you'll need more than just a few kilowatts per sub

the reason is they have no way to keep MMs down and provide high power handling... so efficency suffers and they have to try and make up for it through BL...

you can tell from the motor size and height that you can expect around 30-40Tm of motor strength which means huge depth and motor size... also assume huge coils at least 4 layers...

to gain efficency you either increase motor strength or lower Mms.. .and motor strength only helps so much

if David wants something usable sealed (the only way you'll use this excursion PERIOD) he needs at least a QTS of .3... meaning that this thing is massively inefficent due to the extreme need for the high power handling which means... necessarily... an increase in Mms

don't get me wrong though...still a great sub.... might just want a Hifonics Goliath per XXX

not to much to be mistaken about... it's a 4" coil 4 layer copper... IIRC something like 20awg...

for that coil to be that long... and already knowing the XXX's cone weight from before... the surround and suspension... no way it's under 300g... and even then you'd have SX power handling... so you could use maybe half of the 50mm one way... only way to use it all is to double the Mms and raise BL to compensate...

only so much you can do here though... it's working against yourself as efficency only slightly rises as you raise BL but Qes drops like a bomb for each unit you add

To hope of usable DVC 2 ohm versions assume high BL... and very very high MMs so that this excursion is real

from the video it seems very real... ... however since the coils can take it... I would put money that the sub is between 80-85db/w efficent
