New Orleans - Hurrican Katrina recovery? How is it now?

Question.

So let's say someone from the Katrina Relief program goes to new orleans to help rebuild a home.

During their lunch break they decide to drive around to get some food.

If they were to ask some of the local people there on what they think about new orleanians, how many of the locals would say or agree that most are "lazy"?

I went to a presentation to listen to what it was like when a few people at my school was there to help out. None of them gave any stories about New Orleanians being lazy or nothing. Most of them just say how glad they were to be there and help rebuild a home.

Most of them aren't lazy, I've said this before, but there are some that are. Most of everyone else has already rebuilt are are done with it. Sure there are some people who probably really do need the money, but a good bit of the ones that have not rebuilt, don't have an actual job or any of that are simply looking for a handout.

how many people have actually talked to a "wodie" (slang for 3rd, 4th, or 5th ward resident) before? Strange people have such strong opinions about the inhabitants, but know none of them personally. I'm not saying they're saints. Not saying they are good people. Not saying anything but get to know them before casting judgement. That's what's wrong with this country, people spend too much time pointing fingers and not solving problems
It's not my responsibility to solve thier problems.

forget handouts, can they at least tear down all the abandoned/unliveable houses please? I mean does it take much to knock down all the houses that were damaged beyond repair? that is what confuses me about the whole situation
screw permission, I'd knock'm down anyway.
We have that issue here in TN often after storms....People just abandon the homes. It takes about 1 year to seize such prooperty. Then countless tax dollars to knock it down. It causes blight and no one will fix it

There are still houses everywhere marked with how many were found dead, or if there were survivors, etc.
It is getting better, but in alot of the harder hit areas, its still full of abandoned houses. The french quarter could never be better though, it's bustling with people everyday.

And yes I can agree with the people from New Orleans, that knew what the hell was going to happen to them, but stayed anyways, and are now trying to live off of other people instead of getting their shit together. There are way too many people who sit on their ***, and expect handouts.
Wtf? I had no idea what was going to happen. My *** had to get rescued. Storm hit monday and we got rescued friday. It was an experience especially with the **** heat.. I'll never stay again
