New Orleans - Hurrican Katrina recovery? How is it now?

went down there for the BCS game in january....the french quarter was rebuilt...everything else was still real ugly. we ended up talking to some locals walking down the sidewalk and got their thoughts on the situation...they said the same thing. most who haven't rebuilt have been expecting a hand out and are too lazy to get to it themselves. the group we spoke with had rebuilt and moved on. previously i simply thought there wasn't much help. hearing that stuff from locals definitely changed my viewpoint....
Nod. Our next door neighbors actually let a Katrina victim move in. He never moved out. Yep, just lives there now. Did he ask for a hand out or a settlement check? Nope, he saw nothing for him and moved.

Buffalo can figure it out, why can't these people?

how many people have actually talked to a "wodie" (slang for 3rd, 4th, or 5th ward resident) before? Strange people have such strong opinions about the inhabitants, but know none of them personally. I'm not saying they're saints. Not saying they are good people. Not saying anything but get to know them before casting judgement. That's what's wrong with this country, people spend too much time pointing fingers and not solving problems

Actually, it's good to know what people are like there too because I never really thought about the victims there being "lazy".
I usually hear people at my school who went there for the katrina relief program saying how nice new orleans people are.

They told me how a random construction worker there walked up to one of the katrina relief women and just say "thank you" just because they were there to help fix homes.

Now I know the truth; New Orleans people are "lazy"
No one said that all New Orlean's people are lazy. Infact the majority of people have already reabuilt and have moved on with their lives. But yes, the only people wh have not done so, are looking for a handout because FEMA, and all that other handout shit has spoiled them, so they figure they can get free money.

Don't have to know them personally, the proof is in the pudding.

DING DING DING DING!

And there we have it. People instantly take any comment about this and make it into a race issue or something else.

People have recovered and are living lives like they did before. It's the lazy *** pre-katrina welfare people that feel like now that something bad has happened they should be carried around.

They were out here in MA rebuilding by using the hand out debit cards they got to pay for strippers and XBOX 360s here is was all over the news //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Yes I have, and I have also talke with some "gangsta's" from the 9th ward, and they were all happy about getting their little check, and figured they could get more.

See this is why we shouldn't have hand outs. These people should have just been left to die, if they made it....good job. If they died *shrug* less strain on our economy.

forget handouts, can they at least tear down all the abandoned/unliveable houses please? I mean does it take much to knock down all the houses that were damaged beyond repair? that is what confuses me about the whole situation
