Hi everyone,
So this is the state of my headliner (Volvo S40) and it's time to redo it.
I wanted to add some subtle lighting and such and figured there are a few empty parts of the headliner I may be able to add speakers in - some problems with it though. Here's a good quote from one of my forum buddies explaining the problem with audio in my car:
"I am not familiar with this device but it looks like it outputs directly to the speakers and does not go through the car's amplifier. Is this true? If so, then it may be ok. Otherwise, these cars are a real pain for audio upgrades.
The factory system is divided into several components in various locations in the car. They are interconnected via fiber-optic cables using the MOST network. The premium sound system is controlled my the ICM (Infotainment Control Module), which also controls the climate controls and car settings. The CD changer in the dash, AFM (AM FM module) is located in the trunk area on the passenger side, the amplifier is in the trunk area on the driver side. All are connected to the ICM via fiber. About the only copper is the power supply, antenna and speaker wires."
The device referred to would likely be the one I use - Parrot MKi 9100. Anyone have any experience with it?
Also, the main reason I came to the forum was to ask about headliner speakers. I have space for ones in the exact center of the car - I have enough space for a tweeter or two, but I'm not sure if having a speaker there will help? I could probably angle it up from downward firing to 45 degrees, but not much more. Also can have one in the upper front console where the overhead lights are, but acoustically would either of these be beneficial?
I have a 12" kicker in the back that I installed myself so I do have some experience with audio. Also installed & setup my home sound system, which is a 5.1 system with all paradigm speakers & sub.
Sorry for the long post and many thanks for any advice.
