When I get home from work today, I'm going to download winamp. iTunes has given me enough greif. Every other update to the program results in this. Never used winamp before, but I hear good things. If it works out well, I can say goodbye to iTunes, quicktime, windows media player, media player classic, and be a very happy man.

I don't use norton, mcafee, or have problems with my computer outside of itunes.

to answer previous questions: I have had this happen before. Each time I dragged my music folder back into itunes. Lost all of my playlists, ratings, and play count (no big deal to me). The big problem is that my song tags get messed up. For instance, some music i download is titled Track 1, Track 2. I import those songs into itunes. I manually change the song titles, artist name, and album name. Sh!t works. iTunes crashes, I drag my music folder into itunes, all my songs are there, but those songs I was talking about are now retitled back to Track 1, Track 2, etc. Get what I'm saying?

I hear winamp has automatic tagging. That sounds iffy, but if it works, it would be heaven for organizing my music.

I have always wondered why people update software when the stuff they are currently using shows no issues or signs of needing to be updated. Don't screw with something that already works. Also I can't stand apple products so I have only used iTunes like 3 times, Winamp FTW.

I'm thinking you will be happy changing out to winamp, I have been using it for 8 years now since I built my first computer and most of the time I have used the same version I downloaded 8 years ago lol, only recently did I update to version 5 so I could use the global keys feature.

That sucks how iTunes works for tagging, in winamp if you go through and edit the ID2 and ID3 tags manually they get written to the song file and are there perminantly, not is some secondary file that is proprietary to the software you are using to play the song.

Glad you didn't loose all your music though, I would probably give up on music as a whole if I lost the stuff on my computer lol cause I sure know I am not gonna go through all the work to get back what I have now.
