new insane jl audio

ill get two and put em in the back corners of my ht room. ill start savin up now and then put a down payment on em when they come out along with a loan to help me get through the payments. im just playin but these thing do look sweet and will probably perform sweet as well.

I read that the driver's were 'slightly' modified W7's. But I think anyone who believes JL just whipped up some W7's with an extra inch of excursion are only kidding themselves. If JL could build a workable W7 with 4" of excursion, they'd have released it as a W8 already. W7's are very intricate designs, it would be pretty involved to redesign it for an extra inch of excursion. Not saying its impossible (far from it), but I think if they'd have done this, they would have done more than quietly stuck it in a home audio cabinet, and nothing else.

From the things Ive read, the W7's were only slightly modified to better fit the home audio environment. I haven't read anything that said specifically what the changes were to the drivers, but I think if they'd have done that extensive of a redesign/rebuild, adding another inch of excursion, they would be advertising this, possibly as a new line of driver.

and also you cant build this system because its not the w7 series its higher performance then the w7 because they upped the wattage and gave it a 4 inch xmax instead of about 3
They probably didn’t do anything too special to the W7. On JL's site it says 4" of P2P excursion, not xmax. I believe there is plenty of suspension travel well beyond the linear limits of the motor, so that would explain the higher figure.

How can they build a box for 2 of these and put 3800 watts to them...They dont even warranty their subs if you put 3800 watts to them for your car!!?? Anyone?...
That's 3800w for two of them, which is 1900w each, which IIRC is still withing the warranty range (I believe they are warrantied up to 2000w).

also something to think about

if you think you have a true 3800 watts of power while reproducing music you need to be shot //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

impedence rise begs to differ...i'd say in the REAL world a TRUE 2kw for the pair of subs, still plenty of power //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

IMHO, 2kw for sub bass in HT is still overkill.
