New Car time...

thats fine, i've beat my share of mustangs and z28's on the street and the track, but that was years ago, before i hit 130k on the engine
i still drive a mazda and it handles wonderful for a little wagon

btw, my rx7 is in the shop with a seized engine;)
I'm not saying I don't like the car, just that it isn't the best thing since sliced bread. People think that because noone else uses it, its the best thing out there, I like to remind them otherwise.

Don't get me wrong, I like mazdas, its just Im not a big fan of rotaries.

i agree, but most people have no idea what a wankel engine is so they just put down a car based on no knowledge or what the hell it really is

i love them cause i have owned 2 and there is nothing like revving it out to 100mph+ in 3rd gear at about 8500RPM or missing the shift to second(on purpose) and blowing 6 foot blue flames out each tailpipe, i just miss mine alot:(

i would have also suggested an MR2 Turbo, but this being a "car audio" forum i figured that car is a ***** to do any major audio mods too without alot of work

maybe a 300zx or supra from the early 90's would be a good choice as well

hmm wonder if i like imports;)

i agree the rotaries were one of the best engines ever, but only because of their uniqueness (if thats even a word), i definately wouldn't have one for a daily car though. They can be reliable, but most people don't know enough about them to keep them up. Note by reliable we have to remember the RX-7s were 80s cars, how many miles did any 80's car get on it? you don't see many around for a reason.

I do adore the grand national, mean car with tons of potential, only problem is the people that own them and know what they are hold on to them like crazy, if you find one for sale its usually not worth buying.

Buttt on the note of an $8k car, i say go with something late 90's, maybe even 2000. If you're wanting transportation i hate to admit how reliable hondas are. I'd stray away from forced induction, especially if you want low maintenance costs, just like the rotary engine, someone that drives the piss out of a turbo car and doesn't change oil regularly takes a car that could be perfectly reliable and blows the turbo by 90k.

The FD3S's are the ones who needed rebuilding of the 13B's about every 60Kmi.....the FC's didnt have that problem

**** it...i clicked this thread and it took me to bottom of 2nd page so didnt see this 3rd page til now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blush.gif.99bc659ee2012b7d826165e26fb5eebe.gif

My car is an 80's car with 150,000 miles on the motor. Runs 12's on the street.. How many RX-7's do that? Rx-7s will never be considered reliable. A civic is reliable, a accord is reliable, a RX-7 is an accident waiting to happen.

GN's can be had pretty cheap considering their value's are going up and there is not many left.

Also, my friend knew just about everything he can bout rotaries, and the engine still blew...sometimes knowledge can't overcome a crappy design.

The fc's had no problems...he had an FD.
The rotary is the biggest piece of shit ever. If you knew anything about efficiency, you would agree. They are small, gas guzzling, lag inducing POS's. Yeah, they can make power, and then your seal breaks and you're fuked.

I'd wager many other engines against that lil PO. For example, my engine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif or the 4g63.

Your engine will never be as fast as a bigger displacement engine. Ever. Its simple physics behind it. All things equal, the larger displacement engine will win.

I'll put it this way, if rotaries **** on the street, and unless you are using some insane 3 rotor, you'll loose to any piston engine of equal setup.

edit: if you saying that the 13B will never beat a bigger motor then no it wont ONLY TO SOME CARs...but in general displacement helps but you cant deny an RB

uhm..... what?

just because it is in a skyline, doesn't make it the best thing since Jesus's shit. Get over your import brainwashing. The 2jz will smoke the RB anyday of the week.

Theres no denying displacement. If you knew anything about cars, you wouldn't be arguing with me.

if displacement rules, why don't they make a 230947cubic inch engine???? obviously bigger isn't always better, and to some extent is worse, same reason some of the huge engines have relatively small displacements. There is a sweetspot for displacement, if i had to pick i'd say 6cyl, not 8. and somewhere in the mid 3 liter range.

also, i don't think engine really means crap, if you want to argue speed, its like saying a subwoofer with a bigger xmax is better....cars have tons of other factors and properly mating them is what matters in the end.

edit, i realize i was confusing size with overall mass vs combustion chamber size, 5am and i don't feel like fixing it

Its pretty much physically impossible to make anything bigger than about 900cu. Most of the larger disp. engines are in the neighborhood of about 800cu. Alcohol funny cars are around 500-600.

Just so you know, and LS1 weighs less than a 2jz... Huge engines (v8s) have small disp. so that they can rev higher pretty much. There are other reasons, but thats why you see ferrari w/ 4.3L v8's and 6l V12's. I really don't feel like getting into it more, but more disp. for the most part, is typically better in most situations, but not all.
