greetings all, i stumbled here while looking for some information about subwoofers for a new vehicle. i recently purchased a 2006 volkswagen beetle that needs some assistance in the bass department.

as it stands, i am planning to keep the 8 speaker monsoon system (for now, at least), so i will be using a high input converter for my rockford fosgate 1000bd (the older one that is 1000x1 at 2ohm instead of 1). i was using a box with two audiobahn 1251s (yes, they are that old), but my new car doesn't have much space, so i'm looking for something that can give me high quality sound, for the lows in all of the classical and jazz, as well as hard hitting noise for all of the techno. because of what i like, i want the lowest possible, as close to 20hz as i can find without going big. i don't really like what i've heard from ported boxes, expecially in hatchbacks, so the smaller sealed box is what i've been using since near the beginning.

around here, one shop has suggested a diamond 10" (i don't specifically remember the model, but one of the higher end) and another is recommending an 8" w7. where they sell the jls, another suggestion is the box with a 10" w3 that fits into the spare compartment.

i'm hoping for some ideas about woofers and/or boxes for this car. ideally, i would really like some input on the jl box.

Check into some Boston speakers. Most of all their lines sound good and the G5 line is fantastic, although I don't think they make those anymore.

Also a budget would help us to help you more.

i didn't mention a budget because i haven't shopped for stereo equipment in almost 9 nine years, i don't know how much quality i can get for $100 vs $1000. i had no idea that 8" subwoofers could do what that 8w7 does, absolutely amazing.

what i want is what i described above, i don't limit myself on cost until i see what is available and then i start eliminating based on what i can get for the money. case in point, i own a breitling instead of a rolex because i think rolex charges a permium for their name. i buy generic cereal in the grocery store because it's the same thing. make sense?

i would say that i'm not interested in spending more than 250 on a box and woofer, but if i can get something that is better than what i have had in the past, i would be willing to spend more.
