New box finished, thoughts?

[gpappy]

Going in the back of a Chevy Express van. 2.0 cubes per chamber vented to somewhere around 38 hz (i hope). Two 12" CVR's 4 ohm DVC wired to 1 ohm pushed by a Hifonics Brutus 1606 running at half gain or a little more.

It looks a little ghetto with the grills, but they are on there for protection not looks. Painted with Rustoleum "hammered" black paint shot with an automotive type gun. All 3/4 MDF construction.

Thoughts or comments? Just wondering what ppl think.

PS the white flakes on the box are snowflakes lol.

Long story kinda, but the back seat of the van folds down into a bed. My wife insisted that the box not interfere with that. The tunnel in the middle accommodates the organizer thing mounted to the seat back and the shape of the box is contoured to fit this space also. A royal pain in the a$$ to build that way but shes happy so I'm happy. lol

Finish looks excellent. The only gripe I have is the rounded top and bottom to the port as it doesn't stay that way back into the port. I wouldn't be surprised if that causes some port noise around tuning at high volumes.

How much did the paint cost and how many coats did you apply? Any primer? I'm thinking about doing the same finish on an enclosure for a friend. It looks really nice and it would be easier than a gloss black finish.

You need primer on wood... Well, unless you want to buy like twice as much paint...

Yea, I've used primer in the past, I'm just curious if he did. Judging by the impossible to find corners, I would assume he used some kind of primer.

Hey thanks for the good words. I used primer. I actually had some Kilz in spray cans around and used it (two cans worth) then sprayed the Rustoleum thinned 20% with xylol, shot three coats and used maybe 3/4 quart which cost 11 bucks. Cheap finish, but I really liked the texture and feel to the finished paint. I was going to shoot automotive paint I had on hand but decided to experiment and I'm glad I did. Just be sure your prep is good because EVERYTHING shows through the finished paint job.

Yeah.. Also paint is actually more expensive than carpeting... So unless you take alot of time in prep, or you use really cheap paint, your better off carpet I think...

Anyway, sorry I didn't comment before. Looks really good!
