he needs a a head unit anyway, hell be happier with the ease of just running some rcas to the amplifier and be done, instead of running gobs of wires to the amp.

gobs of wire? how do you figure that, he already had a plug that connected to an amp with speaker level inputs. all he would need is a LOC to connect to where the plug was and plug RCAs into LOC than to the amp.

that speaker plug that you didnt know what it was, it was alpines built in line converter

what i was saying was he would be happier with the rcas as compared to the high input connector for the amp. a LOC is fine, but head unit is better.

Is installation fairly simple? Where are the wires coming from?

preferably dash, behind radio. you need splice connectors(like image). if bought new, converter should come with instructions, you will also need to find your vehicles speaker wire color codes. what vehicle do you have? yr,make,model

Get it from amazon, a shop will charge you 50 bucks for 1. Amazon will has it for like 15

ummm, frys electronics, bestbuy has one, but its 50$. local car audioshops will most likely have one

and shop will try to overcharge you, especially if you go in sounding like a newb. they LOVE newbs. online is best choice, if your impatient, pay more @ car audio shop

Cant he just splice the LOC to the wires that were going to the Alpine

I guess my last question is where exactly am I connecting these wires when I get my deck out? I'm trying to find the color codes but just in general, what am I looking for?

technically. that's why i said "preferably" from behind the radio. you can just splice them into the rear speaker wires if you want. i guess i just like things "cleaner looking" i dunno
