New alternator wtf?

2500/13.8 = 181 amps + amps needed for cars electrical = 250 amps is more than enuff, Well thats not the problem....

hrrmmm. maybe a new batt might help, not sure though.
That equation works assuming the amp is 100% efficient, which it isnt. He also has a mid/high amp. If his car takes 40A to run, then 210 is available to the audio system. I know for a fact that the viper is capable of drawing WELL over 200A.

Yeah, I think you're right on. Pretty lame though.

well a capacitor will solve this problem because ur battery drains when u stop and a capacitor will fix that see how a capicitor works hxxp://www.satcure-focus.com/tutor/page6.htm

No.

I really, really don't believe it'll work in this specific application //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

The output of the alternator will be lower at lower rpm's. You will have a little dimming and dipping of the voltmeter in the dash if you are hammering the volume. Be careful not to let it dip too low, 10 volts is not good for anything. In other words, turn it down at stoplights and other stops where you are at idle.

With that said, I rerouted my engine ground to the case of the alternator. I used a ring terminal on the 0/1 gauge and put that into the mounting bolt on the back of the alternator. Insulating this lead is crucial to keep the supply and ground separated to prevent shorting out. See if that helps.

If you are still wanting more stability, time to buy multiple batteries to stabilize the voltage, but your alternator should have enough juice for your situation.

Also, a note on capacitors. I consider them to be a "cleaner/filter" of the voltage supply, nothing more. Thinking capacitors will supply more power is wrong. They are not a power source. They are a throughput device.

Hope this helps...

How does it do well over 200A? Assuming the amp is 100% efficient it'll draw 181A. Now if it's less than 100 % efficient itll draw less amps or more? I thought less?

I would really like to know this before I buy a HO alt assuming it has enuff amperage and finding out it doesn't..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

If it's less than 100% efficient then it will draw more current. 100% efficiency means that the amp converts all of the current directly into an audio signal. In reality, a lot is lost to heat (why your amp heats up), along with other forms of energy. Class D amps are generally much more efficient than class A/B amps, but still they are no where near 100%

Thank you, so lets see.... Alot of class d amps are around 80% efficient, I think thats a good medium.

2500 * .20 = 500

2500 + 500 = 3000

3000 / 13.8 = 217A

Sounds good.
