The PLV-7 has a built-in 500-watt RMS digital switching mono amplifier and features six 7-inch cones that produce the same output as two 12-inch subs while using 30 percent less space.

I guess I'm a little shocked by how much cone area 6 7" drivers have. They have the approximate cone area of a 15" sub......given up until now I'd never actually done the math on it before, but I wouldn't have guessed they have that much cone area before actually figuring it out.

Though they also list the Xmax as 13mm one-way....I'd be very interested to know what drivers they have in there.

Yeah....Alpine's headunits are pretty un-impressive thus far from looking over the site. Looks like they stripped them of features.

Ahh my bad. Didn't see the "optical" logo, so I didn't bother checkin' the specs list.

But other than that, the only other difference is the 4V preout -- which doesn't matter since in my setup, all it does is act as transport...

it seems that they are definitely heading in a multimedia oriented direction, with much less emphasis on your standard cd player, as far as head units are concerned. i mean, the top of the line 9857 barely has any of the features of the middle of the range from this past year. and the retail prices are going down, leading me to assume they want you to buy one of their dvd units.

I agree with you. They should have made that $650 dollar dvd,cd, player with time alignment and better eq bands and such for that price. To bad

Im kind of interested in that bandpass subwoofer setup. Theres like 6 7" subs that are inside with a 500 watt amp built in so it comes powered that supposedly sounds like 2 12's and its designed for a SUV. Kinda looking at that right now.

Do you think prices will drop a decent amount soon for the 2005 Alpine head units soon? I was looking at buying one but figured on waiting until the new line was released.
