New Alpine Setup

Hey everyone, first post here at CarAudio.com although I've been creeping the forums for quite some time. I am posting here to get some feedback regarding a new setup I am looking at building. I currently have a Sony single-DIN head unit wired to an Infinity Reference 1600a (1600 watts peak, 600 watts RMS @ 2ohm, 400 watts RMS @ 4ohm). I used to use this with an Alpine Type-R and a custom box in my Dodge Caravan back in the day and it sounded amazing - a warm, loud, thumping bass as to be expected with a Type-R. About two years ago, I bought a Honda Civic and pretty much transferred the system into the new vehicle. Ever since I've been using the Civic, the system that once used to thump like crazy suddenly sounds like complete crap (the bass would be muddy and rattle). It eventually culminated in the blowing of the Type-R and I have been left subless. I consulted a few install places (which all s*ck in the Greater Toronto Area, FYI) and they said that despite having a powerful amplifier and solid subwoofer, my box was designed for optimization at a certain frequency and was made to sound better in open cabins (like hatchbacks and minivans) as opposed to enclosed spaces (like a sedan trunk). I have attached a photo to this post so you can see the box I was using.

I am looking at building a new setup using the existing head unit and amplifier. I've had a few ideas in mind, which are:

Alpine Type-R 12" SWR-12D4 w/ a Bassworx ported 12" box.

(2x) Alpine Type-S 10" SWS-10D2 w/ a Bassworx ported dual 10" box.

I have been leading towards the dual sub setup cause I'm pretty big on bass clarity and loudness and rather pay the extra money to have a clean, tight thump rather than a potentially muddy one coming from a single sub. I also believe Alpine subwoofers are the best value subwoofers for the money and I have a hookup on discounted prices for them.

I would also like to see if anyone has any suggestions regarding buying used subwoofers. Not on too big of a budget but if I can get better bang for my buck (no pun intended), I mind as well take advantage.

I look forward to your responses. Thank you!
