New 6x9 help

I just put two new 6x9's in my car and I was wondering if I will need to run them off of an amp. I am currently just running it off of the head unit and if i crank if fairly high when the bass hits it kind of crackles a bit. What is causing this?

I have an amp that is powering my two 12" subs, and then the rest is off the head unit. Thanks in advance.

If you have a high pass filter, try setting that around 75-80 hz. If they are rear speakers, most people just run those off the head unit. They won't sound amazing, but they should be fairly clear. The front speakers should have most of the sound.

Are you talking about a high pass filter on my head unit? Right now I have the bass turned down, and then my front and rear speakers sounds fine and the bass goes to my subs. I was just wondering because sometimes I will turn the subs off and I would like to turn the bass up and still have it sound decent.
