never sounded right

First speakers and amp were an alpine amp and rockford fosgate punch 10. changed to planet audio p300.2s. sounded much better but was still missing something. Punch 10 wore out and fixed it with silicone but wore out again. Current setup is 2 sony xplod 12" in a ported box with planet audio 600w rms 2 ohm stable amp. Tried the stock xplod 8 ohm which was wired in series and also tried parallel wired 2 ohm bridged on amp. no difference. amp should have been plenty for 10" maybe not quite enough for 12" but should sound better than this. sounds garbled, not clean. any suggestions.

a capacitor makes problems not fixes them...your amp may be clipping or you could have a bad connection from the source you are getting your music from...are you using rca's? also your lpf could be set wrong and you are getting too much treble

using a pac 10 to 1 output adapter. sounds best with high and low pass filters all the way down and bass boost off with gain set high, but if gain is set too high the speakers rumble even if music is not playing. bass sounds great if it only hits on one frequency and not very often. If the music consists of lots of bass frequencies or one bass note after another it sounds crappy. don't notice loss of power to other electrical systems though.

noticed today that the green power light sometimes blinks and then the red protection light comes on breifly. I know that it is well grounded according to my multimeter. Don't know what else to do. Tried different amps and speakers. on my 3rd car so I know that it is not rattle or acoustics. I could probably figure it out if the speakers didn't sound so good with monotoned bass.

Installation is more important than the equipment used. The protection light could be from a number of things like low impedance detection or over heating or even low voltage from the battery/alternator.

The enclosure and environment are two important aspects to take into consideration (more so than the equipment going in them).
