Never heard the comparision

I have heard both subs in several installs and what not,but My friend asked a question that I honestly cant answer him.He wants to know what has the most output a 12W7 or 12"L5(I tried to explain they are 2 diff. subs)But he can get both for a great price,He said he will be puttin either in thier maxium size ported box recommended by the manufacter,He siad he will be runnin rms too the L5 and like 750wrms to the W7( but I also told if he wants output and has that power get a 15" L5 but he cant get thm a cheap for some reason) I just wanted to know which one u think will have more OUTPUT not sq and all of that I know most will say the W7,but I just wanted some of ya'lls input so I can set my friend up as best as possible

the L5. One, they recommend more of a box and more of a port. Two, they will have more cone area also are a good deal more sensitive. Three, we've done comparisons of this very sort on a JL 500/1 amplifier and testing output voltage/amperage to match input wattage to both subs. These comparisons were done in 2.5 net cubic feet enclosures with 40sq" of vent area x 17" in length. Our standard street beat 12" subwoofer enclosure. Both placed in the same location in the vehicle which if I'm not mistaking was a Pathfinder or an Infinity QX thing. The L5 12" was louder all the way to square wave by over 2dB. Hope that helps your pal choose the louder sub. We did not test it on a bigger amplifier, we matched gains in the low 500w area at full tilt; pure sine wave.

That is kinda what I expecting for a answer,Just I know that they have an advantage for sq,but I wasnt to sure about output tho,But I am gonna go head an let him know what I think and just set him up with the L5 with an orion 600d ,I think that would work well in a nice box for output

It'll definitely be louder than the JL, that's for sure. In a box made to get loud.....that W7 holds no wonders in store for an SQ fan. The enclosure has to be on the smaller side for any advantage to be audible with that comparison.
