Hey y'all, I know this is really off topic but can anyone give me any instructions on how to install streetglow neon lights? Is there any way to avoid using the stupid cigarette lighter? Please help, I want to install two rods in my trunk.

cut off the cig. attachment and strip the wires back then run them off the battery like you would anything else...

A nifty trick i used with my girlfriend's car was to strip the cig lighter off like cyber256 said and instead of wiring the neon to the battery, attach the + side to your head unit's remote wire and the ground to a near-by chassis ground (screw, bolt, whatever....as long as it touches bare metal) that way your neons won't stay on all the time, only when you power up the head unit. it's a lot easier and cheaper than installing a switch, and just as effective.

yeah that's how i put my neon lights in my car that way works the best. i mean they are pretty much on all the time though think about it how often do you drive with your h/u off ya know?

what happens if the wire is nto long enough what kinda wirs do i need so i can get it thelenght of my car so i can putthem near my subs ???

regular speaker wire works just fine. if you have an amp in your trunk, you can just run jumpers from the amp's remote and ground to save yourself some trouble.

every car i've seen had there neon's wired to the h/u input and then to the ground. it worked just fine and has for over a year in like 5 people i know's car.

I can't tell how bad an idea that is-----think of it this way ----everyone know what happens when you connect to low of a load[speakers] on an amp right------it goes into PROTECT right-//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif----well the HU's remote circuit doesn't have a protect feature. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif------now yea you can connect a RELAY to get a signal from the HU's remote wire for the neons BUT don't wire the neons power to the remote of the HU

I know that this may be out of the blue here no one mentioned it but what ever you do, do not and i MEAN DO NOT wire it into your amplifier you will have more problems then you will know what to do with. I learned the hard way my friends told me to do it that way and next thing i know i needed new subs, streetglows, HU, and amps so dont make the mistake i did and wire it into the amp.

The neon light draws less current than a crossover (1.9 amperes as opposed to 3.6 amperes) and people jumper crossovers from their amps all the time. Also, how would wiring it to the remote hurt anything? You can wire 6 amps to your remote wire, no problem, so what would it hurt to wire one or two amps and a neon light? When you talk about turn on and constant power circuts, ohm loads aren't an issue. It's like comparing apples to oranges. If you're really that worried about burning up your remote, put a fuse on that *****.... Trust me, it won't hurt a thing.

PS: I don't have neons in my car, but i have my remote wired to a distrobution system to turn on both my amps, my crossover, and my eq. That's way more amperes drawn than simply a neon light and an amplifier.....why hasn't my remote blown yet?
