Current Setup:

Alpine CDA-9835

MB Quart RAA2400

MB Quart RAA 4200

Dynaudio MD100 tweeters

Adire Extremis 6.8 mids

Elemental Designs 9kv2 8" subs

my rpevious setup had more frequency problems, but it was quite dynamic. that was using Coustic DR amps and a kenwood x911 using 8 volts balanced to the amps. i think that in my current setup, the voltage swing is too low and not giving me enough of the dynamics that i ahd with the much higher voltage preouts of the kenwood. so, my question is, what high voltage units are available that give me the following list of features? OR, should i install another component (a line driver) and use that instead to jack up the existing voltage. one nice thing about the quart amps is a 'front end defeat' switch, that removes the gain and crossover circuitry completely from the signal path, but the amps are gain adjustable to 8 volts rms (much more than my current alpine) so i would love to be able to get closer to a straight-wire-with-gain approach. i have been looking at the Audio Control Matrix 6 channel line driver or some Navone Engineering units ... but the audio control piece tested very well ... hmmm ... advice?

or, a headunit that does the following:

1) adjustable 3 way crossover, with each channel ahving adjustable 6/12/18/24 db slopes and variable and overlapping crossover frequencies

2) adjustable level output for each output (i.e. able to attenuate the tweeter output from the internal crossover)

3) adjustable time alignment for each individual output

4) play CD-r cd's with MP3 music

5) all settings must be adjustable by the user in the car.

I will only be using the preamp outputs.

(the audio control solution is a lot cheaper, but i will need to find a place to put it, and it IS another item in the signal path) ...

I would shop for a new Kenwood excelon, their headunits are kickass this year and are priced very competitivley.

Eclipse is another that comes to mind but their styling leaves much to be desired.

Alpine is a popular choice but they are having problems with their first run '05 head units (CD not ejecting, RCA pre outs screwing up).

Panasonic and Clarion are proven performers.

Pioneer premier head units are another good choice they have all the bells and wistles a person could want and nice styling.

The top end Sony stuff is rumoured to be very good this year as well.

well, i think that what i need are volts, pure and simple. so just the fact that there aer some nice headunits out there on the whole doesn't really help me. unless someone has another avenue for me to try and pursue ...

Would you be willing to sell the unit? I'm looking for an Alpine 9835 at the moment...
I'd look into the Audiocontrol digital line, Like the DXS...DQS...great stuff. Later...

Eclipse CD8455- 8v/55ohm outs, 24bit dac, 10 band peq, independent 3 way xovers for each ch 6/12/18/24 db slopes(note:lowest selectable freq is 63hz), TA...the works.....

sounds like the crossover has some limitations that might prevent me from getting it. i will see if i can find a dealer that ahs one in can play with, but i won't hold my breath

how much lower do you need to go? that your amplifier could not rectify..

id get the eclipse cd8455 and call it a day.
I agree w/ Audiolife and 3.5 on this. I think the 8455 will suit your needs very well. I don't own one but have played with it quite a bit at my buddy's shop. Great unit for sure //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I've also played with the 8455, it is my first choice...but it is a little out of my price range.

Seriously tho, if you decide to sell you 9835...let me know first...I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Just to throw this out there..............Premier's 860 and 960 both have 6.5 volt 100 ohm pre outs and crossovers that are every bit as flexible as the Eclipse. Oh and the Premiers aren't anywhere near as ugly as the Eclipse either. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

However Eclipses parametric Eq is more flexible than pioneers graphic eq.
