I was wandering what size capcitor i would need for an 1800watt 2 channel amp?

would I need a 2farad or would a 1 or 1.5farad capacitor work???

Generally, 1 farad is good for 1000 watts, so 2 farads would be good for 2000 watts. It never hurts to have too much capacitance, so I would go with at least 2 farads.

My personal favorite type of cap is the Alumapro caps. They use new technology that blow away the standard big cylinder style of capacitor. I've used them several times in different sound systems, and they work awesome. And they pack a lot of punch for the dollar $ !! You can get an Alumapro 5 farad capactior for the price of a standard 2 farad cylinder style capacitor. I think the Alumapro caps come in 5 and 15 farad capacities.

I've seen some good prices on Ebay.

Yeah, any amount of capacitance will help, but the question is : will it help enough?

Is it 1800 peak or RMS? That's some pretty beefy power.

I wouldn't use any less than 1.5 farads, but 2 to 2.5 would be better. Your lights might still blink with 1.5.

Also make sure that your alternator, battery, and power wires are up to par. That is the most important part!

If your alternator is weak, capacitors won't help any. They will just add an extra load to alternator.

Oh, if it's 1800 peak, then you should be OK with 1.5 farads.

Plus, bigger amps usually have several small capacitors built into them, if you have a good quality amp (aka JL Audio amps, my favorite).
