Need some help with my system.

So I bought 2 12" RE Audio SE's and I'm running a Sundown SAE-1000D mono amp. The subs are DVC 4 Ohm subs and I have them wired down to 1 Ohm on the amp. Here is my problem. The guy that built the box built it too large. These subs require 1 cu. ft. a piece and he has about 1.5 cu. ft. in there, roughly. Now one of the subs is popping, it doesn't do it at all volumes, but only when you start to turn it up. It sounds a little bit like distortion, but you can tell the difference. My question is, when the shop puts some more wood inside of my box to fix what the other guy didn't do right, and lowers the airspace down to spec (1 cu. ft.), will that eliminate the popping in the sub?

Thanks in advance for the help.

don't know if it'll stop the popping but putting the 2x4s in to take up the air space will work. the popping sound could be the sound of the sub over excursion but why is only one popping and not both?
That's what was confusing me. I'm thinking that it's either a problem w/ the sub itself or just that one side of the box.

Hope that helped... Keep me posted. We will meet soon //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Appreciate it man. I'll keep you in the loop. Until then, I have the bass down so no popping or distortion will be occurring.

this is a seperated chamber enclosure? if so then take the "popping sub" out and put the it in the side that is not popping in if it does it in that side then it's the sub.

Yes, it is a separated chamber enclosure.

One thing I want to mention, the installer did something to make sure he had the wires set up right when hooking it up. He popped the battery out of his power screw driver and touched the ends of the speaker wire from the subs to the battery and the sub played a quick bass note. He did this about 4-5 times. Could that have anything to do with the problem?

na dout it it's a quick way to check phase. i say switch subs see if the same happens to the sub not popping.
x2

Also, measure the internals of each box and do the math yourself.

'cause, honestly, your subs should be fine with .5 cuft of extra room.

My first thought of 'popping sound' is the amp is clipping a bit. Now, it could've damaged one of the drivers and not the other.

But first, switch subs and see if it's still doing it.

As for the battery thing, it wouldn'tve done damaged the driver. If he only did it a few times, it wouldn'tve gotten the coil hot enough to cause damage.
