Need some help on choosing an amp

I am ordering two 12" pioneers subs that are 1000w peak, and 400w rms. they are a dual 4 ohm subwoofer. I was planning to buy a 1000w kenwood mono amp, but as i keep reading i find out more and more about choosing amps. I need a good amp that can power these two subs at 4ohms. I am glad i didnt just go about ordering this amp already. I am looking to get a good amp for these subs under $200, what do you guys suggest?

You've got two subs that individually are rated for 400w RMS.

Together that gives you a need for 7~800 watts RMS.

Your pair of DVC 4 Ohm subs can be run at 1 or 4 Ohms together (or 16 but who would use that, I wonder?) and you've already stated you want to run them at 4 Ohms. So, with this in mind you need 700 to 800 watts at 4 Ohms.

Now that you're armed with that information and an already-stated budget start looking around!

an amp at 700-800 rms are pretty expensive. If I run like 500 rms @ 4 ohms with these subs would that be alright? Or is that underpowering them?

You might want to look around for some Logic Soundlabs. I haven't had any problems with them, and their prices are fairly cheap.

I don't know if you are looking for a particular brand, but from my sales I have been pretty pleased with Planet Audio. Also, I would probably look for a dual voice coil that can handle 2 or 4 Ohms. The DVC option normally costs only a few dollars more and sometime there is no price difference. This will give you more wiring options.

what subs are they? 306dvc's?... cause i have them running off 700-800wrms and they get very loud... but i have ran them with as little as 200rms per subs and they get very loud.

And who told you that running them at 4ohm will sound better that 1ohm? you won't noticce the difference.

PG xenon 600.1... near 800watts 1-4ohm... like 200 shipped on ebay

the 2 pioneers I was going to get are a DVC, but it says nothing about a recomended power for a 2 ohm application. I am looking at some alpine type e's and they look pretty good, and they need less power.

Yea i wanted the 306dvc's. It says recomended 400w rms. But can i run 200w rms each and that would be ok for the sub? I just dont want to under power them.

with 200wrms per sub they would sound good... but its not enough... get the pg xenon 600.1... is in your budget and will produce 700-800wrms at 4ohm or at 1ohm.
