Need New Alternator?

I have a 2003 Jeep Wrangler and I am thinking of installing two 4 channel amplifiers, but, I’m wondering if I need to first upgrade my alternator. The Jeep has 117 amp alternator and the amplifiers I’m thinking about getting are the MTX Thunder 404 (50x4 at 4 ohms, 200x2 bridged) and MTX Thunder 564 (70x4 ohms, 280x2 bridged). I can upgrade my alternator to 170 amps, but, would rather not if its not needed.

Therefore, is my 117 amp alternator have enough juice to power both these amps?

i had an 80 amp alternator pushing one 800w amp and one 50x4 (overrated) amps. i had some dimming. but it worked. i now have replaced it with 160 amps, but my box is in the making, but i doubt ill have any voltage drop or dimming.

i think you should be fine with 120 amps. thats quite a bit. i suggest 4awg from the battery to the trunk, then get a 4->two 8awg FUSED distrobution block - check http://www.knukonceptz.com for all your wire and RCA\stuff

but why are you getting two 4 channel amps? i hope you arent planning on bridging one and using it on 2 subs... ah oh well. i guess if its two 8" or 10" woofers ported it will be good.

but you should be quite fine.

My 105 amp alt handles a true 1000+ rms just fine...

However, I'm now playing with the idea of getting either one 5-channel or one 4-channel and one mono amp. However, I like the flexibility that two 4-channel amps gives me when I do add speakers later on to my set-up.

Ah well, I'm really new at this and have so much more to learn. Just barely scratching the surface so far. I've found these boards very helpful and I'm in no hurry.....just trying to absorb as much knowledge as I can before I buy.

Do the Big 3 if your really worried about it. You should do it anyway if you have plans of future system improvements.
