Need Help!

Okay so I currently have this box:

The specs are 4ft^3 with 54 inches of port area and tuned to 35hz. My question is what subs would do well in this box? I currently have type rs in it and am looking for a little for more bang. They will be powered by a sundown saz-1500. Any help is appreciated.. Thanks!

12"s?

I guess it doesn't matter what size you need, because I can't think of anything right off hand that'd need 4 cubes and only 1,500 watts of power. A pair of the new BTL n212's should do alright in that enclosure, but you'd need a lot more power...and $800+.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing when reading recommended enclosures on various different subwoofers. Lets say I double the power and get another 1500d. Would there be any good subs then?

4ft^3 will work for a lot of subs. Some popular 12" subs on here can be used in less(SA-12, Mach 5 IXL, and some DC stuff comes to mind), but generally speaking there are a lot of woofers that will work well in that box.

wrong

lots of 12's will work in that space...
It's not just the amount of space dude has, it's the power he has on tap as well. Most 12" subs that're rated for 700-ish watts rms don't require this much air space. For example, Ram mentioned DC subs. I'm pretty familiar with their stuff, so I know a pair of Lvl 3 12"s will do fine on the power the OP has...but they wouldn't need anywhere near 4 cubes. If the enclosure is 4 cubes BEFORE woofer & port displacement, that's one thing. But if he has 4 cubes net AFTER all displacements, and only 1,500 watts on tap, there is no DC driver perfectly suited for his application.

If he ends up with a pair of subs that doesn't need this much air space, he'll simply have to cut back on the power a little. It's not like a sub will refuse to work if it isn't installed in a perfect enclosure. It'll still make some noise...

based on a 12" ( if it is didn't see if he said that or not? ) i am guessing the box ( using the pic as a reference ) is around 16x16 x 36ish.. which comes out to 4cf gross.. before port..

sound close?

thats why i say what I said it wasn't just a wild stab in the dark like saget's comment... which is still wrong either way you look at it lol

I have some 12's in just under 4^3 net on 1600 rms and they **** all day..

I immediately asked the guy if he needed 12"s. He didn't say no, so I just assumed I was right.

I haven't thought about this thread to the point where I've figured out whether the 4 cubes is prior to or after port discplacement, so I don't know if your figures are correct. If the OP's claim of 4 cubes is gross volume before port discplacement (and prior to woofer displacement), it should fall pretty close to an area that literally dozens of woofers would work well in.

The Lvl 3 may not be a bad suggestion afterall. The SA-12 would be solid as well...as would the SSA Icon (although he'd need more power and the tuning is a little high).

Well the box is 38x20x15. So I'm not really sure if that means 4 cubic feet before or after sub and port displacement? Someone should know that. And yes the box is for two twelves.. Is it possible to lower the tuning by blocking some of the port? I know it can be done with aeros but I have never seen it done with a slot port.

Edit: Did the calculation and that comes out to 5.2 cubic feet before sub and port displacement. How much would it be after sub and port displacement then? Im thinking right around 4 cubic feet..
