i know i need some type of converter but I still don't fully understand what i need and what needs to be done to do it right and safely. Pictures of what i need would be fantastic. thanks alot for any help.

You want a power supply with 12 to 14.4V output and a current rating which meets or exceeds that of the current draw on your mobile amp. Good, high amperage, power supplies are not cheap!!
