Need Help!

I have a X600 US AMPS @ mono 4 ohms to 2 JL 12w3's hooked up off of a line out converter of of my 6x9's in my 2005 chrysler 300 C. The amp keeps going into protection control and we checked the stats on the amp and it is doing so due to high voltage. I have went through 3 different amps (this actually fried my ol skool PPI A600) and every time the system shuts down. I called my auto tech and he said it cant be the charging system b/c the car's check engine light would stay on with anything over 14.5 volts. One other thing to note is that the system seems to play fine when the key is in the accessory position and the system shuts down when the car engine is started. Thanks for any help I'm a newbie

the system works when in the accessory position and shuts off when the engine is on and I put the vehicle in drive (dont know how I would test the alt while the car is moving. Is there something in the wiring of the amp that would cause some sort of peak of volts? such as improper wiring, crossing, bad LOC, etc?

Any impropper wiring should cause fuses to blow or undervoltage (ie bad ground). By wiring i mean power and ground to amp. Does the amp shut off if you rev the car in park/neutral? My suspect is still the alternator because that's the only thing that can put out more than 14V.

Edit: It has a stock battery right? None of this insane 16V what-not?

it does have a stock battery, also you mention that wiring could effect undervoltage, but what could cause peaks ion over volts....so if it is the alt, this can cause over volts, never heard of that, always under....also is there any way to cap this over voltage or do I have to go get a under ratted alt?

You need to put a voltmeter on the amp's terminals while someone starts the car. Without knowing the numbers you're just guessing.

agreed. my amp done the same thing but it was the wiring on mine. i had it wired up in 2 ohm and my amp isnt 2 ohm stable. you need to check your battery and alt and wiring. like the other guy said i wouldnt trust your check engine light or so. that could have a blown fuse or burn out bulb. not sure if that explains anything that your amp is doing tho.
