Need Help with SPL/Fart Box

I'm trying to get the most that I can out of the equipment I have this year while the season is still rolling. Currently I am running a Sundown SAZ3000D @ 1 ohm and 18" custom sub (konaki motor w/ 4 stiff spiders) in an Acura Integra hatchback. A lot of the "bigger" competitors around here tell me to build a smaller box tuned to the mid 50's. I was thinking of doing a sub up port back 2.5-3cuft box with either a 8" or 10 aeroport. Any ideas out there?

i did a 3.7*37 for an MT in a focus hatch, and he was going 146.5 on music sealed up on half the power you have.

you can tune higher, but id aim for around 4 cubes if i were you.

I think i'm going to go with a 10" round port for about 19+" sqin of port per a cube. too much?

way too much., try out a really short pair of 4" ports

for an 18 on 3k id say 4.5 cubes because small boxs take alot of power to make them loud and u dont have alot of power. i have 10k and 1 18 and its in 5 cubes. so id say for ur sub and amp setup go with

4-4.5 cubes

25 inches of slot port or 14 inches of aeroport, like 1 8 inch aero

sub up port back

I used ~24in^2 of port per ft^3 in my spl box...worked fine for me, but I was using a larger box due to a lack of power.

my point exactly! i dont think 2.5 cubes on an 18 with 3k will be loud at all.

If he's not able to reach the mechanical limits of the sub with the amp, then there's no need to go with a smaller box. In fact, he should go with a bigger one until he reaches mechanical limits. Bigger box = bigger peak.

What the box needs to be depends on what kind of metering you are doing. Dash/kick/headrest usually want a different box design.
