Need help with ported box plans

I am going to be building a ported box for my sub. Need it to be about 1.3 gross, about 1.0ft*3 after port and sub displacement according to specs for current type R. I want this for SQ, but like it loud. following specs are for boxes tuned to 30 hz.

My sub is a 04 type R.

Alpine recomends a box with external dimensions of 12.5 x 14.5 x 17.25, with a 1" wide port that is 22 inches long. This is for the 07 Type R 10.

I also made a box with that free program, it came out with a box that is 12.5 x 14.5 x 25.75, Port is 1.5 wide, and 54.75 inches long.

Which box should I go with, or should I go with something completely different.

I have room for both, but it seems that the box from the free place is quite large. which will sound best?

thanks

Matt

sup el chupo. you have around 1.93cuft of enclosure volume i would use the whole area you have available for the enclosure, that sub plays well in about 1.5cuft net. use what ever you need for the port displacement and what ever is left for the sub since its going to need it.

I dont mind using the whole area, but what kind of port area and length should I use. I was pretty suprised about the difference in the two. This will be my first ported box, and im not sure how to go about it. I guess I could also do round ports, but I dont know what to do for that either.

thanks

Matt

you can get a bit lower tuning out of that space but not by much. i would suggest finding more space to fit a bit biggerenclosure.

Internal Width: 22.50In

Internal Depth: 11.00In

Internal Height:13.50In

Absolute Internal Volume:1.93Ft^3

Vb After Displacement:1.28Ft^3

Port Area:30.38In^2

tuning: 42.88Hz

Why is tuning that high? Recomended on the 07 is 30 hz, and they give those box specs listed above for 30. I would have thought it would be easy to get a bigger box with the same or lower tuning?

Also, recomended volume is .6-1.3 ft cubed. Why go too much bigger than that? What advantage will it have?

Thanks

Matt

lol, those specs for that enclosure are pretty much what can be done with the space available. thats why i said you need to increase the enclosure volume to be able to tune lower and fit a longer port that will allow for lower tuning. you can decrease the port area which will allow for a longer port for lower tuning but you will get major port noise.

i was going to keep trying to find you a better set up with the gross volume you have. but i had some other things to do. im sure some one will work out something for you for free.

i had the same sub and i played around with different sizes and tuning. and around 1.4cuft to 1.5cuft i found that the sub would hit very nice and low. which was what i was after. but the power had to stay down at around 500wrms not more.

the sub will play very well in smaller enclosures. i personally liked it in the bigger enclosure.

Im not gonna be running more than about 350 to the sub, same as what I have on it in the sealed box it is in.

What kind of tuning did you find worked best? I can get something like the 1.65 @ 28 from the moe lester sticky at the top, and would that be a good box for it?

I really appreciate you taking the time to help me.

Thanks

Matt

that 1.6cuft @28 could work just fine, but its really about what youre wanting to get out of the sub/enclosure system. tuning that low will get you some very strong low end bass. but you'll lack some of the upper end bass. here is a link to the enclosure that i ended up building, with specs included.

the low end was there and strong as well as some of the upper end bass, but not as much as i would of liked. if i could do it again i would go just a bit smaller on the enclosure volume and tune it a bit higher. this enclosure was in a trunk car. so it may sound different in your application. but i would make it around 1.2 ~1.5cuft @33Hz ~ 35Hz to bring the upper end bass allot more, while maintaining the lower end bass.

I am mosty concerned with SQ, just want it a bit louder, for those wild days we all have //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

You think the plan for 1.25 @ 32 would give me a good combo?

I ask about lower tunings because my understanding is lower tunings have better SQ, but can still get loud.

Again thanks for the help.
