hello all. i am on the verge of purchasing either a IDMAX 12" or an avalanche 12, but what i need help with is the amp i will be powering the sub with. I have searched on these topics, but found nothing definitive, but from what i can gather the avalanche is a 4ohm sub. could i power the avalanche with a hifonics 1000X1 @1ohm? i've tried reading about ohms and such and i somewhat understand, but am still a tad confused. is this too much power for the avalanche? how much power should i give it...it will be in a sealed box, but i have no idea what the specs of the avalanche even are, they are not on their website. thanks.

the only way to run that 4ohm sub at 1 ohm is to have 4 of them. . . and run all the subs in parallel.

all the positives from the subs to the positive, and all the negatives from the subs to the negative terminals on the amp. (That would take it to 1ohm).

Bullshit, 2 DVC 4 Ohm Subs can be wired to 1 ohm. Wire them in parallel... You don't need 4...

I think you'd be ok with that power at an avalanche I cant remember for sure but I think the ava 12's run around 6~800rms someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

which hifonics ampdo you have or are you looking at thats 1000x1 ?

what kind of box will you use?or are you looking for a box?

are they xbl2??? if so you power one coil and you jump the other coil to set the qts. (you dont power it).

No, No, No. xbl^2 is a technology that helps the sub perform at high levels with minimum distortion(In a nutshell). The Atlases have the variable Q, not the Avalanche.

so would i lose sq wiring the sub for 1 ohm?

...is 1000 sufficient or should i look for something with more or less?

the box will be sealed for sure.

Here are the specs of the Avalanche

The HiFonics should be alright, however, set your gains with the Gain Setting Tutorial in the Amplifier section.

si, that or any hifonics really. yes i want hifonics, dont ask my why i am a freak.
you could get that and leave yourself some headroom. when you get or if you get another avalanche then you can run it at 1ohm for the full 1000wrms.(or close to it anyway)
