I just bought a 21 inch dp and I have it in a 7.5^ box on 600w I have been being gental with it to break it in. After two weeks I turned up the gain to a little less then half way about 1000w played a swine swep and juice box and the subs was pretty warm and smoke came out of the port DID not smell like voice coil. And the sub still rest at 1.5ohms after I let it cool down I turned it back on still sounds just as good as befor there's no rubing. Has any one else had this happen or could tell me y it happened. And the coil still looks new

Didn't even have the gain 1/2 way up and the volume was only on 20 little over half way. I had the amp on my li's 3/4 the way up with the volume on 25 and they never even got warm and that was 1500w. And my voltage has never droped below 14.8v so o don't think that's the problem. Idk I guess I'll just keep an eye on it.

I put 4kw on each DP 18" they got hot but they took it. that was until i wanted .2 db more out of it and clipped the tar out of them.. LOL whoops..

I have 2krms on a Death Row 18 and it takes it like a champ also.. not sure what could be going on with yours.

just saying you had the gains at half or 3/4 or whatever doesnt determine how much wattage they put out, too many other variable such as line out voltage and system voltage can change that in a second, my guess is you clipped your amp, you need to set your amp with a meter

that gain setting may or may not be proper. if you have a high volt radio, a high volt pre amp eq, and a crossover that has a lot of gain then that gain setting on the amp would be more than likely to high. the gain needs to be set with meter or preferably o scope. i have never burned a coil on any of my dps except when i had an amp that was dirty or had the gains to high. i was running a 40.1 on each one of my dps with out any problems with burned coils. now i did blow the surround off of a couple of them but a 40.1 at .3 ohms on each is a little above rated power.
