Need help setting up surround sound speakers

...not so much the actual hookup of the speakers, but the placement of them. I'm going to be mounting them on the wall, but I don't want to just guess...does anyone know of a good website or resource I can use to help me to best locate the speakers at the correct height on the wall and in the optimal places depending on the room size?

Oh...and here's a quick mock up of our great room...don't be jealous of my microsoft paint skills.

The numbers in red are obviously measurment in feet. The oblong objects on the left are a love seat and chair, and the one on the right is our large couch...and the almost triangular object is of course the TV.

The bottom right portion of the picture where it opens up is where the great room spills into the kitchen. We have cathedral celiengs so they're probably 12 feet high.

for the height place them about 1-2 feet about your ear level when sitting.

i guess they won't really be behind you from what that picture looks like. i found for my room that about 3 feet or so behind me works well.

You might want to reconfigure your living room... Otherwise, you're going to get a tower speaker right in the middle of that walkway.

just evenly space out your satellites and find a good place for your center channel then program their position into your receiver. Place your sub in a corner.

I actually really like your setup but there's one major problem that I didn't mention...where you have the TV is where our fireplace and mantle is...

for the sub placement, play around with it. for me putting in one of the front corners even when using a really low crossover, it was obvious where the sub was. once i put it next to the left main(on the inside) it blends right in and disappears just like it should.
