Need Help Really Bad!!

Hey all. I just hooked up my new sound system and it sounds pretty sick! BUT!!! I'm having a problem!! Whenever i turn my volume over 21 my sub turns off.. just the sub.. The amp is still on and running but you don't hear the sub.. Now i've checked all of my wires over 10 times and everything is solid( grounds are good, power is good ) all my my wires are over sized so i doubt its a lack of current..

I'm running a 1000W RMS kenwood amp( 2 ohm ) and a kicker L5 solo baric 12" in a ported box.. it hits really hard and sounds great! but i don't get why it is cutting out..

The other day i had the battery charger on the battery and saw my cap go up to 16.. LOL.. when that happened i was able to turn the volume up to 30... any thoughts on what the problem might be? Is my amp ****ed?? ANY help on this matter would be greatly apreciated

battery ( power )wire 4 guage

ground wires 4 guage

amp to sub wires 9 guage

hope this is enough info.. i can take pics if needed and prob take a video too.. but hopefully the problem is more basic than i think it is.. thanks a lot in advance!!

i know some people are gonna say get rid of the cap.. but that doesn't answer why my sub is cutting out and the amp isn't.

Yes i'm sure i'm running at two ohm.

Like i said i was able to go up to 30 the other day and now i can't make it past 21 without my sub turning off? weird shit :S

and how do you know the amp isnt cutting out?

if the amp was going into protect mode/ cutting, wouldn't it turn off? I know it isn't clipping because the lights on it are staying on and the fan stays running.. :S HELP! LOL

alright well i messed with it some more and noticed that my amp is getting extremily hot.. i think it's clipping but i'm not sure... it comes on and goes off as it pleases usually wheni try and turn the volume too high now.. I think that my amp is too small for my sub and it's not putting out enough power to keep up if that makes any sence.. SO basicly i can't run my sub hard.. i'm sure my amp is gonna burn really soon.. So i'm looking at buying a 1500Watt amp to run good with the L5.. i was looking at kicker amps just because i think i should stick with the same brand unless there's a really good amp that can put out the proper power withjout burning up. Alot of people are using Hifonic amps with the kicker subs.. should i look into that or stick with something else.. And now that i will be dishing out a crap load of cash for a new amp.. should i stick with a 2ohm compatible amp or get a mono amp? Any help with this would be greatly apreciated! thanks guys

yup. it's definitly clipping and going into protect. protect is just a mode to keep your shit from frying, so no it doesnt shut off. most amps will have a differant color light/LED indicator on it when it's going into protect. but the fact that you're amp is hot like that means your subs are wired incorrectly, or you're gain is WAY too high....or both...

i wouldnt send that L5 more than like 700-800w tops man. when you turn that gain down it'll be SLIGHTLY less loud (not by much though)....but it'll sound cleaner. buying a bigger amp wont yield much more bass out of that sub. you're suffering froma condition in which you want it louder....it's called a bass addiction. i'm quite familiar with this diagnosis....hints the name....lol

Sub is wired from the factory in the factory kicker box but i'm sure my gains are really friggen high because it was pissing me off and couldn't figure out why i couldn't get it as loud as a did before without the amp being stupid! Any tips on what i should be looking for in a new amp or even recomend a new amp.. i want to max out the sub and i'm gonna save up for the amp anyways so money isn't really an objective but i don't think i'll spend anymore than $600 on an amp

haha! well i'm happy with how much it's putting out right now.. i don't really "need" it to be any louder! it would be nice if the amp would stop clippign and turning off tho. If i turn the gains down a bit and don't run it too hard, is it save to still play until i buy a new amp or will this damage my sub? I don't care about the amp that's running it.. i'll burn that 1 up! LOL.. I was looking at the KICKER ZX750.1 mono amp says it puts out 750 RMS.. will this power my sub better and sound better? I was also looking at the ifonics Brutus BXi 1206D Mono amp that says it puts out 1200 RMS .. which one of these will work better and ultimetly sound good? They're both in the same price range so getting either one doesn't matter.. i just want the best sound possible from the amp i now HAVE to buy lol.. thanks in advance!

and yes.. i do suffer from bass addiction. Even tho it was running like crap.. i put my friends two 12's to shame!! he was blown away bahaha.. silly sony kids :p

NO clue about the pre- outs thing on the deck and my gains are basicly all tapped out.. but i'm not receiving any distortion.. I think my amp is F'ed
