Need help picking out speakers.

The Hats are really meant to be run as coaxials which is why the tweet is pretty loud. If you go active with them just get an amp that's active capable that way no extra things to buy. You can't listen to everyone about those HATs though. They've been the recent sq boner for a minute here. (I do believe they can ssound good setup correctly though).
Also if you're wanting to go active you can also check out parts express and madisound websites for raw drivers to mate together. You may Even ssave a bit of cash and still sound just as good if not better than comp sets in your price range.

The bold underlined statement it 100% false, They are not ment to run as coaxial, The tweeter is not any louder then any normal seperate system. Again this is uneducated hersay. Let me take you to school for a minute here.

The imagine series is a componate set up that come packaged as a coaxial unit 2 reasons its entry level so most folks do not have nor want to make holes for tweeters so the coaxial option gives them easy install options. Second these do not come with passive crossovers so you will need to use some sort of processing so the comment about the tweeters being to loud with out a doubt is user error.

I own the 6.5 imagine set and also have worked with HAT 5" tweeter set in an install and they sound amazing for entry level speakers almost better then most mid to high end speakers that cost twice as much.

I guess I worded it wrong. The Imagine tweet will seem bright, setup incorrectly. The tweeter is setup to still reach the highest frequencies even off axis (in a door as a coaxial) so of course simply moving the tweeter up closer to your ear without any attenuation or processing of any sort will make them seem bright. But I have yet to see a speaker review where atleast one person didnt think the tweeter was bright. So much so that I dont even take the "bright tweeter" comment seriously anymore.

I don't see a reason why you couldn't buy a used set if the price is right.. a lot of people just sell them after some light use in the search of n-th level of fidelity. The sound stage might drop with coaxial speakers in default locations though.. it depends on how low they are installed.
I will probably see if I can pick up a used set in the coming weeks.

theres a used set over on Diyma.com for 150 shipped. as far as imaging that is def your install. It may work out in your car with a nice stage height, if it doesnt you can always add another tweet high passed and placed up higher to pull the stage up. or try installing the HATs in kicks on axis with listener using aiming to place your stage up high
That's the 5.25" one right? Is there a big difference between it and the 6.5" version? I don't know much about audio and have been told that larger drivers have better bass response.

generally, yes, bigger drivers will do better for bass. I'm actually thinking about grabbing those 5.25s over there though just to see what all the fuss is about lol

Hi, can you help me with one more thing. How do we know which amp has active crossovers built in? I'm looking for a few more options other than the rubicon. Do they need to have the bandpass or is it ok if their high pass is above 4-5khz?
