Need help picking a home theater reciever

I'm mainly into car audio but I dont know much about home theater stuff. I need something with HDMI, optical, and component inputs. I only need it to be a 5.1. I'm looking to spend no more than $250

I've found the Harmon Kardon AVR-146 and it seems to fit the bill pretty well. It's only got 60x5 but that is at 8 ohms. I called the manufacture and it is 4 ohm stable and will do 120x5 @4 so I think thats more than enough. I plan to make some speakers with a 4 ohm final load. I've found it for $250 so that's sort of in the pole position right now...

I remember Harmon Kardon was really good at one time but I've been out of the HT loop for a while. Is there anything else I should be looking at?

yamaha receivers are also a good option. 100x5 @8 ohms if im not mistaken on some of their models.

thats mine, i lucked out and got it for 150 shipped in IMMACULATE 100% perfect condition off ebay

not a scratch on it.

its 5.1, 80x6 at 8 ohms, and after buying this will never buy another non-onkyo receiver. my dad has a nice yamaha but I like this one a lot better.

What do you like about the Onkyo? Like, what does it do well?

I was told that Harmon Kardons are better for music as opposed to movies than most receivers.

I have an Onkyo TX SV343, I love this receiver like a first born child. Its sounds so nice, and has a sub pre out. not sure what rms its rated at, but it does say 6 ohms minimum. yeah, right. I burped my type r on it at 1 ohm and some stuff fell off my wall shelf. anyways, I'm running 4 ohms x5 and it still runs cold. been running like this for a few years. Definatly look into onkyo for home receivers.

HK, Pio Elite, Denon or even one of the higher-end regular Pioneer with MCACC and THX

For 300 dollars you could purchase a Pioneer 816k. An awesome unit for the price and could probably be had for real cheap now since they've released the 917.

If you can spare a little more or can find a deal on ebay, get the 1016.....for the price it has a lot of features. HDMI hookups as well ^_~
