Ok first here's my setup. I have a 2003 Jeep Wrangler 4 speaker system.
HU: Pioneer DEH-3400UB 50x4
Front dash: Boston Acoustic 5.25 SC55 150w
Roll Bar: JBL GTO638 6.5 180w
Amp: Boss R1400 400w x 4 not bridgeable 400 W MAX Power, 4 Channel 75 W X 4 RMS @ 2 ohm 38 W X 4 RMS @ 4 ohm high and low level inputs
Amp doesn't have a whole lot to configure. 2 low level rca inputs and 2 high level adapters and 2 gain knobs. not bridgeable.
I'm getting little to no midrange bass. I am by no means a car audio pro but i'm not terrible at it. Anyway when all 4 speakers are connected to my amp the sound coming out of the 6 1/2 speakers is extremely distorted. My fronts sound great as far as highs go. I turn the gain mostly all the way down and i get audio just not that great. I was thinking that maybe Channels 3 and 4 are possibly low pass signal and it's throwing lower frequencies? So i disconnected the 6.5's from channels 3 and 4 and piggy backed them on channels 1 and 2 with my front speakers. The sound was ok-ish but still no midrange bass of any kind. So i disconnected the amp altogether and ran all 4 speakers straight from the head unit. I get a light tap tap when bass hits but nothing like the 6.5's sounded like at the store.
I know it's gotta be something I have done wrong or maybe i need a crossover of some kind? I'm not expecting a mirror shaking boom, i know that, I just wanted some nice warm mid-range bass. If anyone is familiar with this amp and it's setup too I"m all ears. I'm just out of ideas and reaching out for some help. Thanks.
