^^^^ you could do that, you just have to run both channels off a single input... the little differences in input on L & R can cause some cancellation problems with the sub, and make it sound worse...

best bet would probably be to just bridge it at 4 ohms, just to be on the safe side, till you get your new amp in. sony isnt really that great of quality when it comes to car audio.

 
I would not recommend running each voice coil off of one side of the amp. Series it to a four ohm load and run it bridged. It will be the same output as 2 ohm stereo or running it to each voice coil but much better. Doubt that amp is one ohm stable.
