Need help in choosing an amp. (n00b)

Hello,

I haven't messed with car audio components for 15 years, needless to say I have forgotten all of which I knew.....which wasn't all that much. I'm trying to determine what amp to get for my subwoofer. I'd like to get a Pioneer brand if possible, but I am open to other brands. I'm also trying to stay in the $100-$200 range, but not if it means I'd have to get a hunk of crap. I have a single Pioneer TS-W307D2 in an enclosure. This speaker is rated at 1200W max with a nominal of 400W. It has dual 2ohm voice coils, which I guess means that it can either be used in a 1 ohm or 4 ohm setup. The Pioneer gm-5300T seems like it would work for me. Am I correct? Anyone have any suggestions?

I may get another speaker the same as this one in the future, so if the amp could scale to use the other one that would be a plus. But I'd be happy just getting this one setup for now.

For a budget amp, I would go with this: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_12210_Hifonics+BXi+1208D.html

You can run it at 4 ohms now, and at 2 ohms when you get your other subwoofer. Do NOT get that Pioneer because it doesn't give you enough RMS power!

LOL, I didn't even know that Pioneer still had an amplifier line.... I have an antique one in my shop.

If the BXi turns out to be too much power for that sub, which I think it could possibly be, you could try an SAX-100.2, would sound great on a dual 2 ohm sub @ 2 ohms per channel, might get a little warm, but would be more than enough power and should hold up, would sound better than a Class D amp on your sub too.

There new compact stuff looks to be pretty nice.
