-Can't post pictures, probably too new to forum.-

A friend of mine gave me an unused NIB Sony XM502Z 250w 2/1 amp and a set of unused 10" MTX Subs for my budget build, but I can't find a model number or specs for the subs, could someone help me out.

I would like to now the model number of the subs and their peak and RMS wattage of these speakers, and if I should/could run one or both using the Sony XM502Z Amp.

-Subs-

2 x 10" single voice coil MTX Subs

Sealed MTX enclosure

2 sets of spring loaded terminals on back

"4 Ohms" on each terminal block

Dated 2003 on the inside

-Amp-

Sony XM502Z

2 x 100w (50w RMS)

or

Bridged 250w (150W RMS)

Thanks.

They look just like the Thunder 3000 from the front, and I'm not really sure how to tell single from dual coils, but they don't look very complex, so i assumed single.

I didn't think the amp would blow them, I was just wondering if it could work and sound decent.

i had some thunder 5000's 12's back in the day that look like those also, they were svc 4ohm, 250rms, 500wpeak, posting a pic of the magnets would help to guess what they are

Since those are single 4ohm coils the most you can get out of that amp is going to be 50 watts... You're going to have to get a new amp.

I have an amp that will power them nicely for 115 shipped. PM me if you are interested. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So that would make the whole setup an MTX T5210?

They are almost loud enough for me at 50w, the highest I might go would be 150w RMS but only with remote control for the amp.

Could I hurt them running them on this little amp? How long will the amp last, playing rock like Pink Floyd, Metallica, AWOLNATION, Supertramp, and some occasional techno at loud but not painful volume?

With 50 watts you're going to have to crank the gains to get any volume. Cranking the gains will cause distortion which will eventually kill your subs from heat.

Underpowering a sub won't damage it. What damages a sub with lower power is when people turn up the gain to make it louder and in turn send a clipped signal to the subs. As long as you set your gain correctly, you won't have any problems. At 50 watts though it probably won't be loud at all and you'll want to turn the gain higher. Best bet is to save up some money and buy a new amp.

Do you have any recommendations at to what amp a guy on a budget should be looking at to power this set of subs? Or would it be cheaper to remove the subs from the enclosure and buy a single sub enclosure and mono amp for now?
