need help from those with TRUNKS

when its facing the rear the sound waves bounce, creating louder sound. think of it as an echo. yelling in a barren desert = no echo, yelling in a canyon = large echo. pretty much the same when facing your subwoofers. which is why its best to seal off the trunk when facing into the cabin, without doing so it would be like yelling inside a padded room. a bit of echo, but very muffled and not loud

oh so you mean deadening? well i did deaden mine the best i could but its like impossible to completely seal it. im getting some second skin sludge to go over the matting and in the hard to reach spots, but thats not going in till summer.

Alright, I didnt realize you werent able to go ported. Sealed boxes, you can really only do so much lol. When I was running a sealed setup in my car, I dramatically lost output when I faced the subs towards the cabin. It just rattled the crap outta my trunk. I'd say try it facing sideways first, I know sideways ported using external aeros works GREAT in trunk cars as far as the TL goes, so why the heck not haha.

well ported or not, 2 12" Q's on ~1800w should be loud lol. box is 3/4 mdf well supported and double baffled. well see how sideways goes tomorrow.

yes two 12's and close to 2000 watts would be decently loud. hell, ive heard systems with 2 12's only getting 200 watts a peice get **** loud. its all in the install, as always.

well i had no issues making my L7's loud in my blazer on this amp. but this is my first trunk so im not used to it.

someone mentioned that when it faces the rear its harder to get loud due to reflection and taking longer for the bass to reach the ear. i dont know, something along those lines. i was just explaining how a sub facing the rear and bouncing its sound waves off of the rear of the trunk creates loud sound due to its reflection, just like echos. when there is something for sound to bounce off of, it gets louder.

Ok reed dolla i under stand where ur coming from but i'd figure it was loud because of the trunk rattling. so how do you stop the trunk rattling without using TONS of deadening?

you dont. you deaden it. thats what you do to help stop rattling, along with other reasons

and also i wanted to face the subs to the cab because itll be harder to steal my system if everythings facing the front. i live in a pretty bad nerboerhood where people see ur system is thumpin. there gunna want it. and i rather not work all these hours to buy something i want and it ending up in someone elses trunk. know any ways for them NOT to steal it> other then a car alarm and mismatching all the screws to the sub? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif?

mix matching screws? pointing your subs forward? those are your brilliant ideas to stop a thief? all i can say is, wow....

well, that is ridiculous to think facing your subs in a different direction would first of all, stop a thief from stealing them, and second of all somehow not letting someone hear it if you dont want people to know you have a stereo than can be stolen. get an alarm, and secure the box like a mofo to the trunk, as well as the amp. the most they could take would be the subs due to the alarm going off, and having to work fast. securing your box to the trunk will prevent them from taking it and running, leaving them to unscrew them. same with the amp, but amps are secured anyway and not just laying around. no high and mighty attitude at all, it was just common sense
